Out of the Vault: A Special Display of Rock Castle Treasures

Saturday, August 25, 2018

We have been hiding something from you. Actually we have been hiding lots of things from you. Most of the items we will display have never been offered for public viewing before.

The Smith Family Bible, books from Daniel’s personal library, an antique silver tea set, family letters, paintings, various other historic items, and archaeological pieces uncovered right here at Rock Castle.

Docents in period attire will greet guests and provide in-depth background information about the Smith family, the historic home, and its contents.

This special one-day only public display is presented in honor of Rock Castle Collections Committee members who were instrumental in gathering, authenticating and cataloging Smith family heirlooms, antique furniture and other historically significant artifacts on behalf of the state historic site. Collections Committee members include: June Fennell, Bettye Freudenthal, Melinda Gaines, Kathy Kirby, Cathy Lampman, Bobbi Petznick, Deborah Stonehocker, Joyce Weber, and Arlene Young. ♥

The event will run from 1pm to 5pm, and admission is $10 for adults, 18 and under free. No reservations required. Proceeds will help Historic Rock Castle fulfill its mission to preserve and interpret the home of one of Tennessee’s founding families while promoting education and engaging the community through creative programming and events.
